Poll Shows Trump Picking up Support Among Latinos

A growing shift in Latino voting shows that many support re-electing former President Donald Trump. According to a March 2023 New York Times article, some Latino voters say they are more likely to vote for Trump than Biden.

The information came from a poll conducted by the New York Times and Siena College. The two organizations reported that 46 percent of Latino voters support Trump’s re-election efforts compared to Biden at 40 percent. However, the margin of error stood at plus or minus 10, considering the smaller size of this demographic. The article stated that Latinos comprise 15 percent of voters, which is a record high according to the Pew Research Center.

Some find the support for Trump surprising since he backs anti-immigration and pro-American initiatives. However, in the last four years, support for his campaign has continued to grow. Trump gained most of his support from voters in South Texas and Florida. These voters approve of his policies on the economy and immigration and his public persona.

Previously, Latino voters have supported Republican presidential candidates in the last three elections, with President Bush (2004) receiving 40 percent of the vote from this demographic.
